Nebelung Appearance

Nebelungs have long necks, slender, graceful bodies, and wedge-shaped heads with medium-sized ears on top. Though some may have yellow-green eyes, their almond-shaped eyes usually shine in a vibrant green. Their medium-length, incredibly soft coat is solid blue with shimmering silver tips, especially around the head and neck. 

Males usually have a thicker fur collar around their necks, but both sexes have tufted fur between their toes. Their tails' longer fur than the rest of their bodies contributes to their elegant appearance.

Nebelung Personality

Nebelungs are renowned for their unique dispositions. They are devoted and build close relationships with their owner and occasionally with other household pets.

Due to their preference for staying close to their owners and their constant need for love and attention, they make lovely family pets. They generally get along with everyone in the family despite frequently forming solid bonds with just one person. It's critical that kids respect their reserved side and gently engage with others, steering clear of rough play or overly enthusiastic play. 

For Nebelungs, consistency and routine are essential. They do best in homes with regular schedules because they can be slow to adapt to changes. Additional support and affection should accompany significant life events like relocating or becoming parents. Homes with many daily activities from numerous family members or frequent travel may be better suited for them.

Nebelungs tend to withdraw to a secure location, such as beneath the bed when encountering strangers. Additionally, they require time to get used to new pets and would rather be in a quiet setting where they feel safe. They may need to do better in homes where multiple animals receive different levels of attention, even though they may tolerate other pets. Their primary need is for human companionship.

Nebelung Living Needs

Nebelungs are happiest when they can curl in your lap in a quiet environment. They are ideal if you have a regular daily schedule because they do well in stable and well-organized environments. They tend to get along well with adults and older people, but they could be wary of small children. Nebelungs get along well with gentler, older children.

Like all cats, Nebelungs enjoy having their areas to relax, nap, and spend time alone. They will adore lofty cat trees, cozy cat hammocks or high shelves, and plush beds where they can curl up and unwind.

Due to their longer coats, Nebelungs require frequent brushing, roughly twice or three times a week, to maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance. Those allergic to dander should think about getting a different breed because they shed pretty frequently. To avoid ear infections, it's crucial to check their ears while brushing to ensure they're clean and clear of debris.

Nebelungs must have their nails trimmed regularly, like any other cat, to avoid scratches while kneading on your lap. Their litter box must also be kept clean for their comfort and hygiene.

Because they are younger breeds, Nebelungs typically have fewer inherited health problems than older breeds. They have a reputation for long lifespans and general good health. However, like any other cat, they can be prone to obesity, which can result in major diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Like any other cat, Nebelungs can contract common diseases like cancer, rabies, heartworm, ringworm, feline leukemia virus (FeLV), and upper respiratory infections. Routine vaccinations and appropriate veterinary care can treat or avoid these conditions.

Nebelung Exercise Requirements

Nebelung cats are energetic and like having toys to occupy their time. A plethora of toys and feline furniture, such as perches, towers, and scratching posts, will ensure their happiness, particularly when you're not home. They frequently find ways to amuse themselves when left alone because they value routine. Because of their adaptability, they are excellent apartment mates.

Nebelung History 

According to the American Cat Fanciers Association, a long-haired blue kitten was part of Colorado breeder Cora Cobb's litter in 1984. The parents were a male cat resembling a Russian Blue and a black female domestic shorthair cat. Being the only blue longhair kitten in the litter, Siegfried made an impression on everyone. The Nebelung breed was founded the following year when the couple gave birth to Brunhilde, a blue longhair.

The Nebelung breed was officially recognized and awarded championship status by The International Cat Association (TICA) in 1997, following more than ten years of development.

Nebelung cats can be seen in popular media like the animated film "Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw," the Animal Planet show "Cats 101," 

One starred with Natalie Portman and Zach Braff in the film "Garden State."
