REQUIRED INGREDIENTS

To create these homemade dog treats, gather just three essential components: peanut butter, bananas, and oats.

Peanut Butter: Ensure that the peanut butter utilized is of the natural variety, containing only peanuts as its ingredient. Avoid processed peanut butter with added oils, sugars, and salt, as it resembles frosting and is detrimental to our canine companions. Natural peanut butter provides a rich source of protein, healthy fats, vitamins B and E, and niacin, all beneficial for dogs.

Banana: This recipe offers an ideal solution for using those slightly overripe bananas. Bananas contribute valuable nutrients to your dog's diet, including potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6, fiber, and magnesium.

Oats: Whether you choose whole oats, 1-minute oats, or instant oats, ensure they are free from added sugars or other additives. In this recipe, I grind the oats into a fine powder to create homemade oat flour, a quick process using a food processor or blender, typically more cost-effective than buying pre-made oat flour. Oats are a nutritious addition to your dog's diet, rich in fiber, vitamin B, and omega-6 fatty acids, among other beneficial nutrients.

PREPARATION OF DOG TREATS

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Place the oats in a food processor and grind them into a fine powder. (If you lack a food processor, refer to the recipe notes for alternative methods).

Step 3: Add the bananas and peanut butter to the food processor and blend until a sticky dough forms.

Step 4: Remove the dough from the food processor and roll it out on a lightly floured surface, using whole wheat flour, more ground oats, or another dog-safe flour available. You can utilize various cookie cutters or cut them into squares with a knife or pizza cutter.

Step 5: Arrange the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the treats puff up slightly, become dry, and develop a dark brown hue on the bottoms (they will still feel soft when initially taken out of the oven). The treats will firm up more as they cool, though they'll retain a slightly softer texture. Allow them to cool before offering them to your furry friend.
